The Monday Set: Beach Fossils – Los Angeles – 7/27/10
When Beach Fossils (who I constantly get mixed up with Beach House due to the similar "Beach" in the name) came through on their recent tour as one of the opening acts for Bear In Heaven, I made sure I had enough space on my drive to record their set just in case. (More...)
Pizzicato Five: It’s A Beautiful Day (Viva Variety Video)
Here's a great clip of Pizzicato Five lip-syncing their way through their single "It's A Beautiful Day" on Comedy Central's short-lived "Viva Variety" show. I used to watch Viva Variety religiously due to the plethora of great musical acts they had on the show. (More...)
The Monday Set: School of Seven Bells – Baton Rouge – 10/11/2010
Brooklyn band School of Seven Bells arrived in Louisiana this week, minus one member. As reported on their website the day after this show, Claudia Deheza has just left the band. Her departure may have been a factor in the somewhat sour tone of the evening. (More...)
Blonde Redhead: Bipolar (Live Video)
Last night I dreamt that I was interviewing Blonde Redhead. I think my restless night was based on guilt from not having purchased their new album "Penny Sparkle" which came out over two months ago. My project for the weekend is to track it down on vinyl so I can go back to enjoying guilt free nights of sleep. (More...)
Chapterhouse: Pearl (Live)
This year has featured many highly anticipated shows such as the recent appearances of bands long since absent from performing, but the announced tour that got me most lathered in anticipation was the recent two night NYC stand of Chapterhouse. (More...)
Cansei de Ser Sexy: Fuckoff Is Not The Only Thing… (Live Video)
You hear about the sophomore slump with bands and their their debut record follow-up. I can't think of any band that it hit harder than CSS. Their self-titled debut did so well that it was re-released by Warner Brothers, but their follow-up Donkey generated absolutely zero buzz (More...)
The Monday Set: The Hold Steady – New Orleans – 9/24/10
In the second part of a terrific double-bill, The Hold Steady tore the roof off Republic with this mammoth set. It was admittedly a little weird to see them without keyboardist/mustache-aficionado Franz Nicolay, but they still sound great. (More...)
The Smiths: Hand In Glove (Live Video)
It's Friday, and what better way to kick off the weekend than a half-nude Morrissey prancing around a Parisian stage back in '84. They played a handful of tracks from the yet to be released "Meat Is Murder" LP at this show (more...)
Party Of Helicopters: Pounding For Vipers (Live Video)
I saw bands play in a lot of strange places, but I never saw a band play in a boxing/wrestling ring. Party Of Helicopters had that opportunity at this gym in Bakersfield. From the looks of it, they didn't bust out any Mexican Wrestling moves from the top rope. (More...)
Belle & Sebastian: The Boy With The Arab Strap (Live Video)
Belle & Sebastian are playing a unique show this evening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. If you don't live in Los Angeles, you may find it strange that a cemetery is hosting Belle & Sebastian, but Hollywood Forever is probably the only cemetery that has a "Cultural Events" section listed on their website.
