The Monday Set: Bear In Heaven – Los Angeles – 7/27/10
Bear In Heaven came through Los Angeles last March with Cymbals Eat Guitars but I greatly underestimated the popularity of the two groups and the show ended up selling out before I bought tickets. Determined to not make the same mistake again, I purchased tickets to last week's Bear In Heaven show far in advance. That proved to be a good call (More...)
Alex Winston – Choice Notes
I have a soft spot for anything that's '60s pop or soul and sung by a female. This amazing track by Alex Winston sounds like it could have come out on any of the many Motown-influenced labels back in the day. She captures the exact flavor of '60s soul but with an updated sound. (More...)
Morrissey – Every Day Is Like Sunday (Live Video)
I generally don't think of the words "Morrissey" and "banjo" in the same sentence, but that all changed when I saw this clip. I didn't see him on the tour for You Are the Quarry, so I don't know if it was commonplace for him to perform with, or sans, banjo (More...)
Universal Order of Armageddon – Flux (Live Video)
Generally we post a live set on Monday, but today I wanted to get something up in the wake of all the feedback about how awesome the Universal Order of Armageddon show(s) on the east coast were this past weekend. (More...)
The Cure – MTV Rocumentary (Video)
I recorded this off of MTV around the time Disintegration was released. It's a half hour (22 min. without commercials) documentary of Robert Smith, the band and Tim Pope talking about the history of The Cure during the filming of the video for the song Lullaby. There's a lot of interesting commentary about Tim's longstanding video making relationship with The Cure as well as stories about the recording of Disintegration. (More...)

The Human League – Love Action (I Believe In Love) (Live Video)
Yesterday I came across a band called "Care Bears on Fire" and immediately thought "What the fuck is that?" Apparently they are teen band that has gotten quite a bit exposure through appearances on Nickelodeon. That's precisely what's wrong with kids these days. Take this Human League appearance on the BBC children's program "Multi-Coloured Swap Shop" back in '81. (More...)
Keepaway – Yellow Wings
Here in Los Angeles it's finally hit 80+ degrees two days in a row, so I declare summer has finally started. And with the start of summer, I gotta find my summer jam. Fortunately this track from Keepaway fits the bill perfectly. (More...)
Built To Spill – Untrustable (Live Video)
Built To Spill is one of those critically acclaimed bands that everyone seems to love but they've never struck me as being either great or terrible. I've seen them live a handful of times and they certainly aren't boring, but there's something about them that's never made me think "I really need to go out and grab their records." (More...)
Sinker – Slash And Burn (Live Video)
I don't think Sinker were fully appreciated in Detroit as evidenced by members of the crowd walking though the band mid-song to get to the door behind them. Here's a video of Sinker playing their song that was eventually released on the legendary 3/12/93 7" comp on Ebullition Records. (More...)
