Five years ago Mary Hansen, one of the two singers for Stereolab was struck and killed while riding her bike in England. I’ve seen Stereolab a couple of times since her death and even though she wasn’t an “original member” it’s still really weird to see them play without her.

I’ve seen Stereolab and loved them live! They’re my favorite band of the last ten years. Such a fresh and imaginative sound that crosses genres and times. This video is ok but not one of their best songs by a long shot. Collect their entire library, and rip yourself a CD of about thirty songs. It’ll be just about the best CD you’ll ever hear. Gush.
I’ve never seen Stereolab live but what is so engaging on record is the the interplay and weaving of Leticia (sp) and Mary’s voices. With Mary’s loss they’re sounding a little cold and hollow.
