I can’t remember where I first heard Cicada. Their record from a couple of years ago never really did anything for me but I’ve always given them the benefit of the doubt as I do with any band featuring ex-members of another band I really liked. In this case it was 4AD electronic pioneers Gus Gus. I was clued in to this single from Cicada’s forthcoming mid-May release Roulette last week and it quickly made it’s way to regular rotation on my iPod. I haven’t heard the original version of this song, so I’m not sure if I should be praising Cicada or The Twelves for this masterpiece, but I certainly like it more than anything I’ve previously heard from them. Here’s hoping the full-length is just as catchy.
