Quiet Riot will always hold a special place for me. When I was 8 years old, Metal Health was the very first musical purchase I ever made. My sister had it on 8-track, but I wanted to listen to it in my walkmen, so I bought it on cassette. And a Quiet Riot concert from the same tour that this recording was made was my first concert ever. Everyone wanted to see them, but I was the only 3rd grader on the playground that next day that was lucky enough to have gone. I vividly remember recounting how Kevin DuBrow and the two guitarists rose up from under the stage to bring the adoring Rapid City, SD crowd 60 minutes of unrelenting metal to my fellow classmates.

I saw them again about 15 years later at some metal bar in Minneapolis. They kept on going on and on about how they love playing the old hits but it was really important for them to play the “new stuff.” That didn’t go over with the drunken/aging crowd who were dying to hear “Condition Critical.” The other thing I remember about that show was Kevin DuBrow’s penchant for huge turquoise jewelry. He had it everywhere, rings, belt, boots. The guy was classy ’til the end.

R.I.P. Mr. DuBrow.
