Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Stagger Lee
WaMu Theatre
New York City, NY
10/4/08

Stagger Lee, whether real or myth, is the main-man in an old tale of a roaming murderous bad-ass. The story of Stagger Lee has been recounted hundreds of times – mostly through blues songs – since the beginning of recorded American Music making the story and myth well developed and hallowed territory. Considering its history, Nick Cave would have to score big in addressing the topic without looking like a gargantuan idgit. Well, I think by most accounts, his contribution, included in his audio tome to murder, Murder Ballads, didn’t disappoint and nicely lends another heinous chapter to the legend. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds played their version of “Stagger Lee”, as the final encore to his recent set on his Dig Lazarus Dig tour in NYC.
