Here is “Scattered Pearls” from the Ettiquette album recorded live at Don Pedros in Brooklyn. This version has Owen on vocals – not a guest vocalist like the version on the album. Unlike, say, the Magnetic Fields, Owen of Ctftpa doesn’t appear to be particularly picky who he has on guest vocals at shows. He seems to prefer to have just about anyone do vocals and save himself the trouble. It can get a bit irritating and from reports from other shows, can be down-right god-awful. This particular show kept guests mercifully to two tracks. This show was notable due to the unveiling of some new tracks, a Bruce Springsteen (!?!) cover, as well his knack for finding low ceiling DIY venues with bad PAs. As a side note, Things must be picking up for CFTPA because Owen now has some serious keyboards and sequencers and seems to have retired the considerably more lo-fi namesake Casiotones and tape decks. (Apparently he has a big hit in New Zealand). If he doesn’t watch out, any day now he could be mistaken for a bearded Nick Rhodes behind a phalanx of keyboards. His next step, of course, is to get himself a cape.
