Like M83, a band featured some weeks ago on TSOI, Hercules and Love Affair is another outfit that I was introduced to via New York Noise, a local access indy-rock version of MTVs longstanding video show, 120 Minutes. One of most intriguing videos featured on NY Noise was a track off of HLA’s recently released debut album, so when they came through town, I made a point to go to the show.

The show featured 80s style dancers, a horn section, and funky disco bass-crawls (which I dig). Since I don’t know much about this outfit I didn’t exactly know what to expect, but I sure didn’t expect a disco take on Blue Oyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”. After having listened to HLA a bit, I believe I am fairly accurate in describing HLA as a disco-fied Bronski Beat update.
