The overall feeling I get from this Unwound recording is that it was a “paying your dues” type of show, opening for Fugazi. This short set was played to what sounds like a very unappreciative crowd who were more interested in Ian and co. bringing the rock than a more-mellow-than-average Unwound set. The recording volume fluctuates greatly, but check out the early version of Next Exit with completely different lyrics.

I missed my last opportunity to see Unwound when they played at All Tomorrow’s Parties here in Los Angeles. I figured instead of seeing them play a huge venue/festival, I would catch them next time. Unfortunately there was never a “next time” as they broke up a few months later. Today’s post is a video from Unwound’s final performance back in 2002. A friend and fellow Unwound fanatic flew up to Olympia and filmed their final performance.

This Unwound set was recorded nearly 15 years ago to the day. One thing to note about this recording is that there’s a couple of tracks from “Repetition” tracks played live. That record wasn’t released for nearly a year after this date, so it very could have been their “debut.” It’s not the best recording, but it’s a great track selection.

I just got this Unwound show in a huge trade of great hard to find DVDs. From what I can tell from the song selection, this was probably filmed during the “New Plastic Ideas” tour. I have no idea of the location, so if anyone recognizes the venue, let me know. Also, Justin rocks the mic and gives over guitar playing duties to what looks to be Dustin the roadie (he never actually turns around, so I can’t be totally sure).
