The new Walkmen record has been released, but I’m still waiting for my copy. I ordered the vinyl from Insound, but they messed something up and it’s delayed 2+ weeks. I’ve had the mp3s of the record for two weeks, but if The Walkmen’s split with Calla on Troubleman is any indication, the mastering on their vinyl recordings is far superior to the cd and more so than mp3s. So I’m still waiting for the vinyl to give it my first listen.

There’s a plethora of live Walkmen video recordings out there, but not a single clip of Jonathan Fire*Eater. Why must this world be so cruel?

The Walkmen – Lost In Boston (Live)

The new The Walkmen cd comes out today, and unlike most of the reviews I’ve read, I actually like this record better than “Bows + Arrows.” In fact, I was playing it in the car and my dog started howling to the music which he has never done before. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but I’m thinking that he likes it as well. Next thing you know he’ll have a job working at Pitchfork. This is one of the new songs off the record that they played live earlier this year at Skully’s in Columbus, OH.

The Walkmen – Louisiana (Live)

The new Walkmen record comes out next month, but they have been playing tracks from the record live for the last couple of months. This track comes from a show in Columbus last month. From the few tracks I’ve heard off the new record, I think it’s going to be even better than “Bows + Arrows.”

The Walkmen – Look Out The Window (Live)

This is the last of the Jonathan Fire*Eater related posts. The Walkmen did a pretty good job of picking up where JF*E left off, but the one thing that I would have to say is that my favorite song that they have recorded was actually written by The Recoys. This is a live recording of “Look Out The Window”(originally a Recoys song) from their show at The Glass House in Pomona, CA on February 19, 2004. This show was much better than the one they had played a year earlier where people just kept yelling at them to play the “Saturn Song.”

The Recoys – Song of the Paper Dolls

A friend sent me a cd with some rare Jonathan Fire*Eater tracks from 7″s. This song was tacked on the end of the cd and it easily could have been a JFE song and not The Recoys. I think that says a lot for the Recoys.
