Rye Coalition – Baby Puts Out Old Flames

This video was recorded in Rye’s home state of New Jersey way back in 1994. I saw them for the first time that same year and didn’t like them at all. Watching this video makes me question what exactly I was thinking. For some reason the video got a little messed up when I ripped it from the DVD, but it’s still worth seeing just for how young they all look.

“Stealing The Pocket” was a compilation record that came out on Positively Punk records back in either 1995 or 1996. I saw on the various websites that there were only 200 of the records pressed and according to the insert, a cd with bonus tracks from Face to Face, Rancid and Anal Cunt was supposed to come out but I don’t think that ever happened. A few of the songs have found their way on various discography cds, but a lot of them can still only be found here. I don’t think this Rye Coalition song has ever appeared anywhere else. All 200 of the records have different covers and since my scanner doesn’t seem to be working, I’ve posted an image of someone else’s copy.

I remember not being too impressed the first time I saw Rye. Certainly not impressed enough to shell out $4 for their demo. Then, a year later, they put out the “New Sheriff In Town” 7” on Troubleman which I bought and loved. So I missed out on my opportunity to pick up the demo when I had the chance, but I found it again via Soulseek. Whenever I get the chance, I will still go see Rye Coalition play, but I certainly prefer the more rockin’ sound of old to today’s more metal sound.
