I posted another Doctor Rockit track from this record a couple of years ago, but I just re-visited it this past weekend and was still really impressed. You can really hear the start of what would go on to become “glitch-hop” and the like. One thing that I didn’t know until doing more research on Matthew Herbert is that he apparently has a big band and has played at such prestigious jazz festivals as Montreux and North Sea.

Doctor Rockit was one of Matthew Herbert’s many aliases. As one of the best artists on the Clear Lable, Doctor Rockit mixed low-fi ambient with sparse techno beats. This song comes off of his second 12″, “D For Doctor.” A few of the songs were released on Doctor Rockit’s final release “The Unnecessary History of Doctor Rockit” a couple of years ago. Matthew Herbert continues to produce and remix records for a diverse group including Bjork, REM, Yoko Ono and Serge Gainsbourg.
